That is totally unacceptable behavior. But I think parents today are "afraid" of their children. If they spank the child, the parents are charged with offensive touching. If they ground the child, they are charged with unlawful imprisonment. As a person who works in the legal field, I see a lot of parents placed on probation for trying to discipline their child. Parents are stuck between a rock and a hard place. The teachers tell the parents to get control of their children. Then when the parents "smack" them, the teachers call the police and scream "child abuse". But, in the scenario you describe, I do believe the parent should have at least apologized to the clerk - but maybe she thought if she ignored it, it was like it never happened. It's a sad state of affairs.

Parent's should be accountable for their children's behavior yes. If a grown woman had done that, she would be arrested for assault, since it was a child, then the parent at the least should get a citation or a fine for allowing her child to act out and assault a person without provocation or reason. It is time that parents learn to take control of their children, there is no reason why a child should engage in such destructive behavior specially in front of their parents, this is an indication of lack of responsibility from the parents and they should be held accountable at all costs.

that really angers me being a mother of 3. I think parents should be and most are the time held accountable for their childrens behavior. I have asked parents before to control their kids in a store then got to the point of demanding them to do something with their demons. No parent wants another parent to tell them how to raise their kids, but if they can't do it, someone has too.

I don't think the parents should go to jail. If the parent cant control their child they should seek help and advise.

My brother is a cop and he tells me all the time to hit my son when he is bad, but that's what we went threw when we were growing up. But if I were to spank my son in a store to keep him from acting like a animal, witnesses call the police. I have spanked my son in stores before and people do talk **** about you. What else are you going to do? Put them in time out in the dirty store bathroom?

sweetie i don't think that parents should go to jail for something that a child did but, they should be held responsible and have to pay for the destroyed item.sometimes the manager will ask the parents not to come back to their store also.but, parents shouldn't be held responsible for everything that their child does because society won't allow us to handle our kids the way that we know will work for those kinds of kids you know.
