The Concept of the transporter was invented when the company that was supposed to deliver a shuttle-craft could not deliver one in time for paramount pictures. Some clever guy said "Why don't
we just make the guys disappear and appear at the destination".
So was born the transporter.
The explanation of how it works goes like this: Matter is broken down at a quantum level and information about its make up is stored in the enterprise supercomputer. The transformed matter, now in the form of electromagnetic waves is beam to a set cordinate. At the destination the matter is reconstructed from the ships data and the energy beam.
This process only needs a functional transporter at one point. The destination, even the point of origin does not required a transporter. Caution must be made not to make people materialise is the wrong place. Like inside a rock or in the ocean.
The transporter can also hold the matter in transit. That is, the operator can decide to trap the matter for as long as he wants and screen it. The levels of safety in the design and operation of the transporter are very high.
And for the above posting, ignore it. The worst thing you can do in life is stop asking questions. Go girl. Go!
