I have a close friend who is now 2 months preg, she signed up for WIC and got approved, but everyone has been getting on her saying she don't need it, but she still wants it. For example, her boyfriend's mother says how they can afford the milk, and how the baby don't need it, and that it's "welfare" (notice the quotes). It's free milk being given to her for the baby, so she still went ahead and signed up being that we all know milk can be expensive! What's the problem with WIC?? Would you sign up for it? And how long does WIC provide for you child, up to wat age??

There is nothing wrong with WIC. It is given to pregnant women and to children to make sure they are receiving enough nutrition. It is free milk, however it is for those who could use the help. If your friend signed up for and receives it, then apparently she meets the income guideline. When you sign up for it, you have to meet with an intake person and bring in several documents with proof of income being one of them. If you fall within the income guidelines, then you will receive the coupons. I know because I am a mother of four. With my first three I received WIC. I do not qualify for it with my last because because my family is over the income guideline (according to the federal guideline). So, some may look at it as "welfare" while others may see it as "extra help". As for how long and the age: A woman will get WIC as long as she is pregnant or breastfeeding, otherwise when the baby is born the WIC is transferred over from adult food items to infant formula until the baby is 1 year old and back to adult food until the child is 5 years old.

I would tell her mom to go to h***. That is what WIC is for families that need a little help. Wic provides more than milk. You can receive cheese, cereal, juice, eggs, etc. I too am taking a part in Wic. They also care about the well being of you and your children. They offer parenting classes, lots and lots of help to families worldwide. They usually offer this until the child is 5 years old(Indiana) and for the mother until the baby is 6 months old. So I would tell the grandmother unless she's going to buy formula or whatever then she should mind her business and be there for her grandchild. That's just my opinion.

I am currently on Wic right now. I am 28 weeks pregnant. It has helped so much. You get a lot with Wic. The baby milk is expensive, so if she qualifies for it, she needs to use it. I know a lot of people that have Wic. It is nothing to be embarrased about. It depends on where you live as to how long they will be covered.

WIC is Women, Infants, Children. There is absolutely nothing wrong with signing up, need it or not. Sometimes you can afford everything but a helping hand is always good. Who can pass up help for a new baby. Its better to have that there for you than to have to struggle with being a new parent. Its until the child is 5 and its NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF.
People look at it like being on welfare and taking up tax money but they are just ignorant because sometimes you can provide but its just not enough. And its not so uncommon.

there is nothing wrong with getting WIC I did and let me tell you if she plans on using formula then WIC is a life saver coz that stuff is EXPENSIVE! some people are just so stuck up they think they are too good for help but that is what it is there for..to help you nobody should talk her out of it! if she wants to use it by all means she should! they will give her milk and basic food for now when the baby comes they will pay for formula which is a godsend and until the baby reaches the age of 5 they will give her milk eggs peanut butter and things like thatI can not believe there are people so big headed they think they are too good for it. some people!!! you know children are very expensive so the more money you can save the better and if you are actually approved to get some form of help than you should take it because you don't get handouts very often!!!

When I was pregnant I wasn't going to sign up for WIC but then realized AFTER the baby was born I would save about $130.00 a month on formula. WIC helps a lot especially when there are times that money runs short and you don't qualify for anything else.
In WA If you aren't nursing you get wic for yourself until the baby is six months. If you nurse you get it until the baby is a year old. The children get wic until they are five years old. They stop getting formula at about 12 months.

wic is fine
and you cant get it if you make to much money so i see no problem with getting it

i've been on wic even though my husband makes almost 3000 a month

formula is very expensive and even if you can afford it it's still very helpful as they tell you what you baby should be eating at certain times and help get you the necessary nutrients during pregnancy

wic provides for child up to age 5 and for mom up to age 1

i wonder if her bf's mother has gone and looked at the price of formula lately
cause OMG it's expensive

hey tell your friend not to get the cheap stuff it's not worth the savings on or off wic

I was on WIC when my daughter was first born. My husband worked and I stayed at home with her b/c we could'nt afford daycare. We could have survived without it but it helped us out so much. Esp when I quit breast feeding and WIC covered all her formula. ( About $100 a month) And that was for regular formula. Soy or special formula cost alot more. Your friend should not be ashamed of getting help with WIC. WIC will provide for your child in most states intil they turn 5 years old.

I have WIC and its a great help. I've had it since I was 6 weeks and even though I didnt need it I still got it. I dont see anything wrong with getting some help here and there. Babies cost alot of money even before they are born. Also WIC will help you to stay healthly while your pregnant and its great to have someone telling you that your healthly. WIC is good till the baby is born and then till the child is 5 years old. Its great to have it.

WIC is the best! STAY on it! Right now you are getting (cow) milk, cheese, eggs, cereal ect.. BUT when the baby is born you will get similac!!!! IT IS 15 dollars a can. Most babys (new borns) go though about 10 cans a month. That is not cheap!!!!
Soon you baby will get the stuff you are getting at about a year of age. They will continue to give the child WIC untill he is 5. You will get it untill you stop brest feeding.
I can getting wic and so glad I did, and ITS NOT HTE SAME AS WELFARE!!!!
Almost anybody can get it. YOU pay taxes for it. Use some of your tax money!
