Depends on the person. Smart people don't use a credit-card at all but have one 'just in case'. They use it to rent a car, plane ticket, hotel reservation.

Wow. I heard the average person has $9,000 in credit card debt. I try to keep mine at a 0 balance cause I'm poor! If I get up to $400 in one month, I panic.
