When you go to the Post Office to get the letter they will present it to you. You can then see who it is from and then refuse it or sign for it.

You can go to the post office and look at the letter, and then refuse. However, the sender will be notified that it was refused. If you choose to do nothing, the sender will be notified that it was unclaimed.
