It may be an official checkers rule, but I don't know for sure.

I don't like it, unfortunatly, there is nothing you can do about it.

Because in checkers, capturing is NOT an option, it is mandatory.

This is one of the reasons most people think checkers is a "simple" game that requires little thought... because they don't know the rules.

In fact, forcing your opponent to jump, thereby creating an unfavorable position for him, is a primary stategy in checkers.

Most people, when playing a friendly game, are not aware of this rule, but in checkers, you HAVE to jump.

If your opponent's move opens up a choice of several jumps, you can choose whichever you want, and you do not have to choose the jump which captures the most men.

A good checkers software program will not allow you to make a non-jumping move if a jump is available.

Because according to the official rules of checkers, when there is a jump, you HAVE to take it.

It sucks I know, because most people aren't brought up playing checkers that way.

Hope that helps!
