I don't want this taken wrong. I have gay friends. I don't care what they do in the bedroom but why do they have to parade in the streets.? We all love people, why should gays and lesbians be singled out.

All you gay, lesbian, transgendered, and straight people....I am not saying it is wrong to be gay but you don't need to expect everyone to understand why you are one. That's a personal choice.PERSONAL being the operative word.

All you people that involve Christmas and Easter and St. Patricks Day, these have nothing to do with sexuality. To classify Christmas and Easter....those are religious holidays. These are true celebrations! I don't have to celebrate my sex life! Why do you!

I got a lot of good feedback, but unfortunately anyone with a visible difference is subjected to ridicule from society so WHY advertise when you are different.?Please help me to understand. Blacks, whites, asians, everyone gets criticized, beaten or robbed. There are always going to be judgements made based on sex, colour, mental illness. Let's change the name of the Gay Pride Parade to Proud To Be Me Parade. For everyone who is a minority.

the same reasons as why they have "latino student unions" or "black student unions" and no "white student unions"
We are slowly becoming minorities through the actions of other people......
we will probably never have a straight parade because they would say that we are being "discriminatory" against gays by having a parade in the name of straights......kind of hypocritical, but that is the way the world is today.......

You could make the same arguement about ANY parade.
Why have a Christmas parade when there are other holidays to celebrate?
Why have a St Patricks day parade when there are Italians and Germans around, too.
Why have an Easter Parade and not a Passover Parade.
Why a Little League Parade and not a Pee Wee Lacrosse Parade.
Where does it end???
Celebrating one thing does not mean you are tearing down something else.

Here we go again. Another heterosexual who, as usual, has not one iota of intelligence as to understand what the gay pride parade is about. It is a celebration, not of our sexuality, but of our freedom. You see giggles, you've probably never had to worry about walking down the street and being harrassed, or whether you'd be fired from your job or denied housing, just because of who you are. Oh, to be sure, there those participants who do go too far with their sexuality, but so what?
On another note, please don't pull the 'I have gay friends' line, it gets tedious and frankly you're not credible Sorry to call a spade a spade but if you had gay friends, as you claim, you'd know not to insist it's a choice. You'd know at least some of the history behind why gay pride exists and what it's beginnings were, but given you clearly don't, I must deduce you are either lying or just two faced to your so called gay friends.
Oh and for the record, Mardi Gras is a straight parade based entirely on sexuality and other vices. If you bothered to learn the history of Fat Tuesday, you would know it is the last day before Ash wednesday, when traditionally, Catholics were permitted to debauch themselves prior to lent. I don't know about you, but it sounds pretty sexualized to me. I was raised Catholic so don't even try to argue this point.
And of course you bring up the famous "I don't care what they do in the bedroom" line, Christ that one is getting old.
Bottom line, as a gay man, why shouldn't I have the right to have a cultural event or festival. Blacks have them, other ethnic and racial groups have them, hell, even Shriners have them. So a few people get carried away, big deal. Truth is, people like you view gays with a disdain that is far worse than any homophobe. At least their honest about how they really feel.
As for a straight parade, if you want one, have one, I won't stop you and I don't anyone else who would.

A straight parade isn't necessary because it is taking place all the time. When you see couples holding hands in public, dining at restaurants, or walking down the church aisle - that is a straight parade.
The idea of a gay parade is for the LGBT group to advertise its existence. Gay people can feel very isolated, especially those living in small towns or rural areas, and a parade gives them a sense of homebeing (being able to identify with other members of the LGBT community).

...you can see one any day of the week... 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year... yep, that's right... go to Arlington National Cemetery to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier... there, you will find a (1) man parade... honoring all those who fought so the "gays" and "Lesbians" and the like have the right to do what they want... This (1) man parade has gone without a pause, no matter what the weather or condition of the World since it began... over 40 years... and this parade will continue to go on to support "your right" to be as you wish...
If you enjoy your freedoms of expression... stop by the VA Hospital someday and "thank a Vet" !!! then, go back out and "do it your way"...

They want to stand out and let everyone know they are proud of who they are. If you don't like the idea of the parade, you can always stay at home. I'm not big on the idea either, but there isn't a whole lot we can do.
Oh-no "straight parades"?-I'd say every other parade BUT the gay pride parades are straight, wouldn't you??

ok if u dont like the idea of the parade then dont go to it.....but its not a parade for gay people....its a parade that shows the pride of gay people......why do people have a parade on the fourth of july.... i mean we know everyone is american right.....well its the same with the pride parade.......we do it to show we love who we are and we arent afraid to show it.....and it takes way more strength to be gay then to be straight......and we have been through alot with our lifestyle in the past years that we have liberated ourselves and now we just wanna celebrate who we are and the pride that takes place with that.

You see them all the time.
* A "straight parade" of 99% of TV, movies, advertising, billboard, talk shows trying to shove their "agenda" down our throats. Oh, and please don't tell me I am "flaunting" by sexual orientation in public the other 1% of the time, when straight couples do this 24/7, without getting such bigoted terms applied to them.
* The NYC St. Patrick's Day parade, which steadfastly refuses to admit LGBT Irish groups, and clings tight to their bigotry
and many other examples.
When you have been downtrodden, beated, defamed, and maligned just for being as God made you, then you can have a parade. Until then, please keep your prejudice to yourself.

Homosexuality isn't a choice.
When you are shot, beaten up, refused housing, fired from your job, having your funeral picketed, and all the hundreds of other little things done to you simply because of your sexual orientation and you decide to stand up and refuse to be beaten down by your detractors, then you can have your "straight pride" parade. Until then you haven't earned it.
It has nothing to do with sex, it has everything to do with standing up for who you are and being proud in the face of those who try to put you down.

You already have them.
Mardi Gras (Predominantly a HETERO HEDONISM event)
St. Patrick's Day(Predominantly a HETERO drunkfest)
Veterans Day (Predominantly only straight Vets are remembered)
St. Joseph's Day(Predominantly a Straight Italian family event)
Easter(See above)
Christmas(See above)
These are all parades thought up and celebrated predominantly by the Straight community.
Why do you get so upset over our ONE parade when you have SEVERAL to choose from?
Heterosexism is celebrated and broadcast everyday in every form of media and entertainment. It's sung about on the radio, it's advertized from billboards, in magazines, television and in newspapers. Heterosexism is even TAUGHT IN OUR SCHOOLS!
