My husband and I are trying to conceive. I have been on plenty of pregnancy web sites and most of them have a link to ovulation calculators. I was wondering on how acurate these calculators were and if I should follow them. Also, is it possible to have symptoms during ovulation-- I was at work yesterday (and according to the "calculator" I was fertile,) and i felt like a ten second hot flash and stomach pain... I also had a headache that whole day....could these be ovulation symptoms?

I think you're a little too obsessed with ovulation, to the point where you might be making your body have symptoms just by focusing so much on it, kind of like a hypochondriac.

Just try to have sex every day starting about 5 days after your period ends up until your next period (if it happens), and it'll occur. Ovulation is a 2-3 day stretch, with one super-fertile day, apparently.

If you do it every day, maybe twice a day, you can't miss it, can you? And you don't have to obsess about your cycle and calculate numbers. All women have different rhythms, anyway, and ovulation VERY VERY rarely has any symptom at all - if anything your vaginal mucus changes, but hot flashes and stomach pain are too much for ovulation.

My husband and I just did it as frequently as possible and it only took 2 months. Have sex with him on top if possible, and with your hindquarters on a pillow or two, and keep your pelvis tilted up. It's superstitious (sperm will flow towards your ovaries either way) but that's what i did and it worked.

I think these ovulation calenders are useful if you listen to your body as well because everyone is different. The symptoms you describe could well be ovulation, feeling hot and a pain in my tummy are symptoms I and most women get. Look out for a change in your CM, sometimes you can get a heavy discharge or something a bit like egg whites. Headaches are common too. Take note of everything and be aware of them happening at the same time next month too, this way you can use these and the calenders to get an accurate time for ovulation. The only prob with calenders is that ovulation can be delayed if you are poorly or stressed or happen earlier than usual. Thats why its useful to be aware of the side effects and listen to your body. Try not to get too hung up on it, i did and got myself in a mess! Relax and good luck x

I like the ovulation calculator on babycenter.com. Most of these websites will give you just a couple of days when they think you are most fertile, but this website gives you a whole week of when you should have sex. Also, on this website you can put how many days are in your cycle. The downside is if you have irregular periods you should not use the calculators.
Try buying an ovulation predictor kit.

The ovulation calculators are very inaccurate because they assume a textbook 28 day cycle with ovulation being on day 14--this is rarely true for most women. Your best bet would be to use BBT (basal body temping) to chart your cycles.
Some of the symptoms of ovulation include: mittleschmerz or pain around the ovary or ovaries, fertile quality cervical mucus (like raw eggwhites), breast tenderness, bloating, increased sex drive, slight swelling of the labia, cervix is high, soft, and open.
