My period was supposed to come yesterday but it is a day late, which is probably due to stress and working out. I leave for NY on Thursday and do not want to have my period the whole time I am on vacation. I saw my doctor a couple weeks ago and she gave me a new prescription of Yasmin to start. Instead of waiting for my period which should be any day now, couldnt I just start the new pill pack now and prevent my period from coming until the placebo pills next month?

Well, in all actuality, you could. But would it be a good idea...no. Why? Because if you were supposed to start your period yesterday and you are late, you body has most assuredly already ovulated...meaning the lining in your uterus has thickened and is ready to be shed (which is what your period is...the shedding of the lining that became thickened to prepare for a possible implantation of a fertilized egg for pregnancy).

Then you have the possibility of "could you be pregnant". You know the pill works most every time, but there is a very tiny chance that it didn't work. Also...perhaps you were stressed about a week and a half to two weeks ago about something (which is about the time you would have ovulated). If you get stressed over something really bad, it causes ovulation to be delayed in some cases...which in turn causes your period to arrive late.

If you take the pills to avoid your period, you could get your cycles screwed up a little by messing with the natural course of your cycles. However, some women do this when they feel. If I were you, I'd just flow with it and let your period come when it comes (it will stop when you take the first pill of your new pack anyway) so you don't mess things up. Also, perhaps you should look into getting the new birthcontrol that allows you to have shorter periods, or even the one where you only have a period once every 3 months. Just an idea!

I take Yasmin too and because of painful periods i was told by my doctor i could take up to three packs without the 7 day break inorder to delay the bleed, and this doesnt do any harm. I occasionally have light spotting which lasts a day but its nothing compared to a normal period. You can choose to delay your period any time you need to by skipping the break.

I used to get migranes only when I was on the placebo pills(due to drop in hormones). The dr told me to just continuosly take the active pills. I did that for about 3 yrs before I got an IUD. This is exactly what drs do for honeymooners. You don't need to have your period unless your trying to conceive.

If you had planned ahead, this could work. It might be too late. You could try but you may still have some bleeding or dark discharge. But in theroy it would work. Could you be pregnant?
