It may be Fritz Wotruba 1907-1975 if it came from Europe during this time frame.
Austrian sculptor of single nude figures and reliefs. Born in Vienna of Czech and Hungarian parents. Apprenticed 1921-4 to an engraver, then studied 1925-6 under the sculptor Anton Hanak. From 1927 worked on his own, practising direct carving of stone; made classical simplified figures. The purchase of a figure by the City of Vienna in 1930 and his first one-man exhibition at the Museum Folkwang, Essen, in 1931 together established his reputation. Friendship with the architect Joseph Hoffmann. In 1934 left Austria for about a year and lived in Zurich. Refugee in Switzerland 1938-45; had several exhibitions, including two with Marini and Germaine Richier. Returned to Vienna in 1945 as professor at the Academy of Fine Arts. Increasing block-like simplification from c.1948, including later figures and reliefs made out of piled cylinders and pressed forms. Designed the church Kirche zur Heiligsten Dreifaltigkeit on the outskirts of Vienna (constructed 1974-6). Died in Vienna.

He was a sculptor of spare, architectonic images of the human form.
Wotruba learned engraving at age 14; in 1925–26 he was the student of sculptor Anton Hanak. Wrought in hard stone with a coarse texture, his early works were representational, but they became more abstract as he struggled to develop a personal style that would eliminate inessentials.

In places like Turkey, Iraq and Iran (then the cradle of civilization) round five,500 years in the past the transition from the Stone Age to the Bronze age got here approximately through the growth of metallurgy. As the ones peoples had constructed stone paintings they could have learned seams of steel ores and after a few experimentation could have alloyed tin with copper to make bronze.
