Wouldn't it have made more sense to settle the passport issue over these last 9 months than to lay out 2 grand for a trip? You might check with your area's court/ family law division and see if there's anything to do- hard to say without knowing your state or country. If he has shared custody, haven't you seen him for months? Don't the kids see him? If not, see about changing the custody agreement.

I would consult an attorney. Most do not charge anything just to tell you what you can do. There should be a way that you can either make him sign them or get a judge to step in and do something. It is not like you are trying to move with the children. He is acting like a child himself about this situation. You might try going to the local clerk of courts office. The clerk might can advise you also. Good luck and I sure hope that you and your children get to enjoy your trip.

It probably wasn't a good idea to buy the tickets before getting the passports. Especially in view of the fact that the Passport Office is running a 4 month backlog to process Passports- even when all the paperwork is there.

first of all how old are the kids? if they are on the older side 10,11ish I would suggest that you all sit down and talk after all you both are still parents to the kids and should put you differences between the two of you to the side.. I know that hard as I have an ex that can pull the same crap so our son and the two of sit down and talk about the issues and concern of the question in front of you..

why did you not have the passport done before you pay for your trip (that say and done)
Had the same problem with my X
when I gone to do the passport I was able to say to the woman that he is a deadbeat
now check you divorce agreement does he has to pay child support to you, if he does than you are the one with custody
or call the passport dept and explain the situation
and also if the children are 14+ they do not need his signature

if you are flying to the Bahamas, i don't see how you can get plane tickets without a passport for the children. does the divorce decree state that you need his consent? if so, you need to find something to use as a bargaining chip with your ex. otherwise, you're screwed.

Just talk to a lawyer. You don't have to go to court. The lawyer should be able to tell you exactly what you need to do in this situation. I haven't been through this personally so this is the best I can come up with.
