As a Survivor, I have issues with the whole "Pledge to Your Daddy" thing, too.
That IS CREEPY, I don't care who disagrees!
Those kinds of attitudes are what lead Fathers and older men to believe that the little girl/young woman is his property, and he can do whatever he pleases with her, with no consequences for him.
Yes, there are more girls in the True Love Wait movement because virginity is not considered as precious to most guys.
This puts women back in the conundrum of "Damned if I do, Damned if I don't". If the "good girls" save themselves for marriage, then who do the boys sleep with? The Sluts.
We'd be right back in the 1950s and castigating sexually free women.
Excellent question, BTW, even if it does raise my blood pressure.LOL.
Argh!
Good luck

I have walked a million miles hither and back to see the differences in heathen and non-heathen relationships. If I could go back and do my life over again. I would have waited for true love, because everything else is just a disappointment not to mention down right dangerous. Guys do not wait, but they should too, because relationships are too complex not to mention expensive if you have a home and a family to raise and your miserable. Old standards are there for a purpose, because it is the female that has the most to sacrifice over the male. It's not a matter of hedonistic behavior, but would you rather have a lasting relationship with someone that you could trust not to get you pregnant before your ready or have to have your man fixed like a dog because he's been roaming the neighborhood not to mention give you a very nasty STD. Don't play it's not worth it. All this hype about sex being glamorized on T.V. and that sex is cool and fun and everyone is doing it. It is degrading the worth of women and men are brainwashed to be jerks and we females are brainwashed to have no dreams and no goals and no worth so we can just be man-dolls and fall into the mold of a plastic society. I say have no more of it ask yourself what do you really want to do with your life. Plastic relationships should be avoided like the plague and old standards should be the new standard for the sake of our future what we can salvage of it.

WOW!!! Good point, girl. While I'm all for the sentiment, I think the whole scene is more sad than silly. 80+% renege on the vow-more than the non-vowers!
There is no substitute for grounded, sound biblical education: for BOTH sexes. When the young grow to fully understand the significance of pleasing a REAL , living, loving god who has their welfare at heart, they are motivated to live their faith. I've seen this in practice over 33yrs.

I'm no expert, but in my limitied knowledge (from reading articles/editorials on it), yes, more girls are involved, or at least it is pushed on girls moreso than boys. One article I read on "purity balls" (where a girl pledges to her dad to save herself until marriage... CREEPY), said that boys have "purity balls" too, only the whole shpiel for boys is, "the woman you will be having sex with is someone's future wife, and you wouldn't want someone having sex with YOUR future wife, would you?"
So basically, women belong to either their fathers or husbands, and having sex with a woman is damaging another man's property. Aahhh, religion.

I think that peer pressure is more intense on boys, if a girl pledges to stay pure til marriage most people would say that is sweet and she is a good girl but for a boy most people would say whats wrong with him is he gay? Its socially more acceptable for a girl to be a virgin than a boy.
Pledging to your father to remain a virgin is not creepy and will help protect that child from STD's and other emotional issues that go with sex to early and to often.
