It all depends on what meaning is assigned to a day.
If a day represents the amount of time required to accomplish a certain task, then the Evening would represent the completion of that particular task.
If the day represents the begining of light appearing which would enable to see to be able to do work ,so night would indicate it is time to stop and rest.
If you talk about the day of the construction of the Universe by Our Creator, then" Light "was the first mass structure creation as per the Record of The Bible. The Bible gives the proper sequence of Creation.
Big Bang theory gives only one sequence with no explanation of what structural formation happened in between expansions.

They both happen at the same time. When it is day here it is night on the other side of the earth. Which comes first heads or tails of a coin?

In most calendars, the 'day' begins at night.
Modern western civilization counts the hours of the day starting at midnight.
Most middle and near-eastern societies that use a lunar calendar have a day that begins at sunset or at the end of evening twilight. This is still visible in many Judeo-Christian rites. e.g., the sabbath commences in the evening; 'Sunday' masses begin Saturday evening.
So, in general, on an average 'day', night comes before day.

in the business and international time standard, Day comes first, but it starts before sunrise.
the date switches at 12:00 midnight, from then until 12 noon, the time is designated as A.M and is referred to as early morning, with most rush hours, the most transit activity occurring between sun-up and 10 A.M
thus, Day would come first
but day can also be defined as "the period of light between nights" and night, "the period of darkness between days"
and the standard day starts right after midNight,
