I don't think I understand your question detail as it's a little vague, but I will try explain my thoughts.

Characters in literature are juxtaposed to use as plot devices mainly. This is because they are sources of conflict to each other, and this means the plot can be taken further, and character's critical choices are more dramatic - and therefore exciting to a reader.

The good/evil friends or twins for example and having them arguing for example (not constantly, that'd be boring!), is a lot more interesting that two good characters who never argue.

Juxtaposition means putting objects side by side. When we do this, we can compare them easily. By comparing and contrasting characters, we can analyze them more easily and delve into the sources of their conflicts. If we juxtapose Batman and the Joker, for example, we can analyze the qualities of both and uncover why they battle each other.
