I know how you feel and here's a question, when there are no spaces given do you try to be in the front where you will be noticed by the choreographer and other on lookers? Another question, and please don't take this the wrong way, do you know for a fact that you are better than the dancers that are being chosen? and if so, it never hurts to ask for a spot, I have had many a dancer ask to have a chance at a solo or in a special number and most times I agree and am surprised I hadn't noticed them before. It's not always about the money (or it shouldn't be anyway) and as for being related to the teacher, alot of times relatives do stand out because they have alot of extra practice time with the instructor. I know one member of my family shines so beautifully when she dances that not chosing her would be unfair, but I do make it a point not to only choose her. however the advantage is that I have been working with her since she was 2 as is probably the case with the other dancers. I really hope that the teacher will give you a chance to prove to her/him and to yourself once and for all that you do have what it takes. Then after that I am sure you will be noticed more, maybe even by other teachers!

studios are very clickish, and if you want to get to be the bff of the teacher/studio owner, it helps to drop some cash, after all it is a business and the money pays the bills. I know I went to the same studio for 24 years and I saw this happen quit often. I was never the person with all the money, I was just a regular student who eventually started teaching there. I've seen it all. I don't behave that way, but if I had my own studio I would have to cater to those who pay. There is a movie on cable about gymnastics that touches on this behavior, it is called stick it. Watch it. It sends a good message about parents pushing children too hard aswell, this goes hand in hand with the whole friend and money thing.

Well im only 13 but ive been dancing for 8 years and i may not be as old as fellow writters but i guess i can consider my self as experienced. I take dance i guess serious i personally enjoy it but some day i hope to become something good . Well theres this one girl who isnt related but has two doctors for parents and my dance teacher isnt much of a bragger but i always think she sorta likes her more. I finally got moved up after i did some private lessons and showed my teacher i was ready to pursue dance at a higher level. Unfortunately, life is like that, if the teacher knows someone with lots of money or is related they always do get favored a little more! Just dance your heart out and ignore everyone else because people who get the easy run in life are only gunna have more trouble in reality!!!Hope i helped

YES!!!!

At my studio theres this one girl who showed up about 4 years after I did, at first she was quiet and we actually got along but lately, becaue her mom sucks up so much, she got a job teachingat the studio and she just got 2 leads in Swan Lake and URGHHHH!

Next year we're seniors and I really want to get sugarplum soooo bad but I probably wont because shes there.

I admit she is a good dancer, when it comes to expression. but her technique could use some work. Because shes so "soft" in her movement she loses balance alot and stumbles.

But thats definatly how it works, Its all politics

this actully doenst happen in my studio, but i have been in a few that are like that! i hate it, and the dancer is not even that good. they need more experience and the teacher is just putting they hopes up! it totally stinks when teachers do that! i mean im not jealous of the girls that get the spots. its the teachers choice. but i do dislike it when they get the parts that even THEY know they dont deserve. ive talked to a lot of girls like that.

there's this kid in my class named johnny, his parents are the owner of the studio i go to, it's a whole lot harder for him because he is the boy of the studio. he practices a lot and actually is much better then most of us, so no, not really.

i do get mad though when these girls in my class get more attention than i do. i work so hard too, i guess it just comes more natural to them oh well.

i know exactly how you feel!! it's not just you!! i switched dance studios last august for that very reason!! it wasn't fair!! unfortunately, though, life isn't fair, and those things happen. try to confront your teacher about your feelings. it's possible he/she doesn't even really realize what's happening. good luck!! if all else fails, just ignore them and try to do your best and if you know you're just as good as the dancers in the level above you, that's what matters. good luck!!

It happens, unfortunately it's the way the world is....the best thing you can do in that situation, is let it go, keep on practising & be true to yourself. Stay honest yourself, don't show bitterness & you will be a better person for it.
