If you are new at doing this and it sounds like you are then I would suggest that you use less hardener than recommended.
This will give you ample time to apply it and smooth it out. Then as it sets up and before it gets too hard you need to use what is refer-ed to as a "cheese grater". This will remove excess amounts of glass if needed to prepare it for sanding.

If it was well mixed, it should all be drying at the same rate. Usually, a little less hardener than normal will still set up but take longer. It will continue to dry in the garage.

dries instantly, 72 hours to cure however you should not paint it or buff it for a week or more needs to cure naturally
