I really liked the Killers when their first cd came out. I agree with you, they all pretty much sound the same. No one is original anymore in this new generation of "music".

I strongly agree with you, Dylan, Lennon, McCartney are all pioneers of their time and these days, the times have changed and some bands try to be a little like them but can't and we don't get in to them because we are use to hearing the originality and art of the pioneers that made music what it is.

I feel your pain! It seems that music nowadays has the same rythem to it. Rock bands are either happy go-lucky 'i love you' type of things, or scream your heads off 'kill myself' music. the pop and rap music has a similar type of bounce to it too that i cannot get into.
although, there are a couple bands I suggest you try. People In Planes is a fairly new band from Whales. They're pretty unique. Their lyrics make you think, and whether or not they make sense, their riffs and rythems are pretty cool.
Muse is another band that has qualities of hard rock, but manages to keep it original.
But I totally agree. Originality has left all lyrics today and a new John Lennon needs to come back and make listening to good music worthwhile again.

It's you, buddy.
As someone else quite intelligently pointed out earlier, with corporations taking over the music industry, the mainstream media is NOT a reliable source of what exactly is going on in the music world nowadays. It's, by and large, as you've noticed, very reproduced. Whatever is most likely to incur a profit is what you'll see on TV and hear on the radio. If you want to find originality, guess what? You're going to have to look for it yourself. And there's plenty of it, arguably more than there used to be.

It all depends what you are listening to, I love 70's and 80's music, but I did not get stuck in that era, I think right now we have very talented musicians and singers in rock and pop, such as John Mayer, Nelly Furtado, Michael Buble, Norah Jones, Jet, too many to mention...

It really comes down to the type(s) of music you're interested in, doesn't it?
Most forms (with the exception of rap, alternative, and heavy metal) I enjoy. If you're looking for deep meaning in the lyrics, it really comes down to whether the artist who is singing them is interpreting them the way the composer intended...or by "gut instinct?"

It's not all modern music. You just need to look somewhere besides MTV and Now cds.

since the 90's , pretty much, no originality, many remakes, messed up versions of classic songs or all chopped up in a (gagging) rap song.
