Those are all good ideas, but none of them will work if the leak isn't fixed....

Get yourself a spray can of "Cover Stain" made by Zinseers, spray the water stain wait an hr to see if you even have to finish coat it, alot of times it will look good meaning it matches your existing finish color. DO NOT use a water based primer/sealer because the stain will only bleed back through whose ever brand you use make sure it's an oil based Good luck Les the painter

paint the stain with polyurethane, then paint it over.
polyurethane is the same product used on floors

Spray it with Zinsser (Home Depot) then repaint.
