I am starting to put together my baby registry. As a first time mom I am very overwhelmed by all of the products and have no idea what the baby will really need. Does anyone have any suggestions on "must have" items and which items are useless? Thanks!

Baby Swing
Boppy
Crib
Baby Car Seat / Stroller Combo
Pack n Play
Highchair
Diapers/Wipes
Socks
Hats
Stratch mittens
Night gowns (that don't have any legs - theses are the best for those late night diaper changes)
Onesies
Blankets
Burp Cloths
Receiving Blankets
Crib Bedding Set
Safety Kit (nail trimmers, nasal aspirator, etc.)
Baby lotion, soap, shampoo, powder

There's also plenty of information on either

A lot of registries will give you a list of essentials when you sign up (I know babies-r-us does this).

However, just a tidbit...in my experience...people don't buy off your registry. People LOVE to pick out baby clothes and blankies and all the cute stuff on their own...I had a full blown registry and I got 3 things off of it because everyone bought outfits, etc...Just a little heads up :) People can't help themselves...buying the cute clothes is the fun part!

I think the registry places have a registry list that they give you - to give you an idea of what you might need. I would go to wherever you are registering and talk to them about it. They have tons of people come in everyday and I am sure most of them are in your same situation. They will be able to help you. Good luck and have fun!

The best thing we could have done was ask everyone to purchase Walmart gift cards. My son is 5 months, and we have yet to have to come up with money to buy diapers, wipes, formula, etc. Believe me, when an unexpected expense comes up like car breaks down, furnace won't work, etc. its a blessing to know the things you need for baby are available.

MUST HAVE BLANKETS DIAPERS AND WIPES. LITTLE SLEEPER OUTFITS ARE GREAT TO. ONSIE ARE NICE TO HAVE IF THE BABY WILL BE A SUMMER BABY AS THEY ARE EASY TO PUT ON AND CHANGE THE BABY IN. I NEVER USED LAYETTES THEY WERE A PAIN FOR ME.
YOU WILL SEE WHAT YOU LIKE AS A MOM AND TAKE TO THOSE ITEMS. EVERY MOM IS DIFFERENT.

GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATS.

What else:
-Car seat
-stroller
-bassinet
-swing/bouncer
-bottles/liners
-bottle brush
-diapers
-bath stuff!!
-monitors
-diaper bag
- pacifiers
