I connect my ZIRE 71 to my USB port and sure, the charging symbol shows up in my Palm, but I can't establish a connection to my Desktop using the Hot Sync option...are there any Connection options I am not setting correctly??

Make sure Local USB is enabled in hotsync manager and that your USB cord is connected to both the cradle and computer.
If it's a software conflict, make sure there aren't any conduit conflicts (eg. both contacts and addresses are turned on)
