i went for a walk today and i found a old church with grave stones ect i want to know how do i find out the history of it its gates are padlocked so are the doors but it has not been used in years how do i find out more

Since you were walking in Wells, I think I would be right in guessing you live there. Why not go into the Diocesan Library and ask if anyone there knows? I'm guessing it's an Anglican church as it is surrounded by a graveyard - if so have a look at this webpage:- http://www.visitchurches.org.uk/frontpage.asp (the Churches Conservation Trust which looks after redundant Anglican churches)


If it isn't - for some nonconformist chapels did have graveyards - then this site might help:-
http://www.hct.org.uk/ (which looks after redundant nonconformist chapels)

You could always speak to the local council ans see if it's a listed building.
