pop, hip-hop but i still love the 80s... ;>

I think mainstream listeners are mainly into kinda retro pop (stuff that sounds like it came out of the 80s), "alternative" rock, post hardcore (music that came out in the wake of hardcore music, it's basically melodic hard rock with hardcore parts) and so-called "emo", which is really nothing more than kinda whiny, prissy hard rock music with slight hardcore and punk influences.
I don't keep up with the mainstream too well though so I'm not sure. I'm personally really into experimental, grind, grindcore, metal, metalcore, mathcore and hardcore right now though, but I'm open to anything. I've heard some good lo-fi pop and rock recently as well.

attempt the 1960's. there is a few great music from the two the united kingdom and US. a good start up must be Elektra label music. It is composed of The doorways, Love, Butterfield Blues Band, Tom Rush, and fairly some different bands and singers.

indie- (short for independent), ( Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! , Art Brut, Bombay Bicycle Club, Cajun Dance Party, Bloc Party, Maximo Park, New Young Pony Club etc.) techno, new-rave, and electro.
