Yep all the time when I was a kid. We used to come home from school, all my neighbourhood kids were my friends... so they used bring their school bags or books and we used to finish our homework together in the patio., and after that we played on and on and on until it was about 8.00-8.30pm which was our dinner time.
...
During weekends too, they used to hang out at our house, our house was the first to get a color television (it was a small town in the 1980s) we used to watch cartoons and play all day.. what a life that was!

Nah, I had the dad that sat around the house in his underware after work.

I have two young children now and we will be the house to be at. I think we are cool parents. We have the large Wreck Room, now it is a playroom, but when they are older, it will have the stereo, TV games and stuff like that.

Not when I was a kid, but now all the neighbor hood kids end up in my yard, I am always like "who is that one, I never seen them before" What I don't get is where are the parents to these kids, I always got to meet the parents before my kids are allowed to go over to some one's house

Oh yeah..My mom got along with everyone. Kids always knew they could come in and hang out and tell her anything without her being judgmental. It's still like that now with my daughter's friends.

When I was young we went anywhere but my house. Now I am a mom. When my kids were young I was the Kool-Aid mom. Now as they are becoming teenagers I am the Cool Mom and everyone is at our house.

I'm proud that this DID happen at my house! My kids always brought the kids home with them, knowing it would be fine........and my kids were responsible for their friends' behaviors..........this worked really well for all of us. My sons would explain our 'house rules' to their friends (no swearing, have fun, but don't 'hurt' the house, be polite, no drugs or alcohol OF COURSE)...........so, we all cooked together to make treats, and they watched t.v., played ball.........just were happy people. I enjoyed having my sons at home, and the parents of the other kids were happy that it was a safe place for thier kids to be.
