As a kid , we used to cut through backyards and the side of houses to get home, or to where we were going.

All the time when I was younger. It was much easier than going all the way out to the street to get home.

Backyards in our neighborhood were hilly with land terraces. I can remember walking across town on the train tracks though.

Yes, we used to charge up and down the back greens all day and all night until we were shouted in for tea or bed.

No..I traveled on the bus..But, I now live in town and all the neighbor kids use my yard..I don't mind...the parents have talked to me..as long as they respect my yard..it's fine by me...this cuts the way in half for these children..

yes. i also used to pick a couple of cukes, tomatoes, and carrots for the rest of the walk home. don't worry, it was my gran's and gramp's garden. happy day:)
