Hi. I work in retail and I see a lot of women, including teens, that have the playboy bunny on their purse, on a tshirt, and so on. To me this seems very ironic because some would say that pornography includes so many destructive element for woman and men. (if Playboy is such...that's another question)
I know that at one time playboy was risque, taboo, and even shunned by many women. Anyway, I think you get my point. I just see the popularity of the bunny logo as very ironic. Please explain this to me and give me some insight on this.
I am open to what people have to say and want to express.
Debate is fine, but this is a question is fyi - for others. Be civil or I will report you as abuse. I simply want people ideas.

The fashion industry demonstrates once again just what mindless slaves people can be. Playboy bunny's are just as demeaing as some of the provocotive styles teenyboppers wear. This is where parenting might come in.

As for the young women, I guess that they do not see the issues as very serious ones just yet. Maybe because the world in general is very kind to pretty young women. When they are older and dumped for a younger woman (for example) and they view life differently, they will probably feel differently about such symbolisms too. For now though, life's a party and they will enjoy the trends offered without a worry in their minds about the consequences. Sort of like drinking and driving. Thanks for the thoughtful question.

I do feel that it is inappropriate for young teens to wear a shirt with a playboy logo on them. It is like advertisement, by that I mean " hey look at me, here I am and I am a hottie" and to a lot of sicko's out there it is like an invitation. I have not paid much attention to the purse. I do not feel playboy is porn, however, I do believe the logo needs to remain in the magazine. Playboy is the most purchased magazine out there, read more by women than men. The men buy them primarily for the pics and the jokes, then their girlfriends, wives, mothers read the articles, which are actually quite informative.

It's kind of hard to debate in this particular form, just as far as the actual limits of Answers goes.

Anyway, when in Japan I noticed quite a number of jr. highschool girls with various Playboy items - a little bunny sewn on to their school sweater, Playboy notebooks and pencil cases that use the non-nude covers of various issues, etc.

I brought this up with some teachers and they didn't really get it, they just said it was a cute bunny character that was popular.

I think they had a point, especially due to the lack of cultural connections there that we in the West have to Playboy.

I think there's also the key point that what anybody sees in something really stems from their own way of looking at it.

Still, a bit shocking for me.

I mean, you see this cute little 14-year-old with a Playboy bunny on her chest, and as a Western guy, you sort of wonder what it all means.

In a way I like it when popular culture takes on taboos and neutralizes them. I think that might be starting right now with the N-word stuff happening in the U.S. Maybe we're just going through a phase where we're bringing the word to the forefront, and neutralizing it, removing any stigma that it used to have. After all, it's just a word. People see in it what they see in it.

I for most consumers it's more about the trend than what it actually signifies.
