In Michigan, Euchre is the official card game. Every indigenous person knows it, and are more than willing to teach. It's great fun for 4 people, and while the rules are simple, the strategy takes some time to learn.
Also popular here is Cribbage, which is a ridiculous game that garners much popularity. While I enjoy it, the rules seem like they were made up by a child in kindergarten - they make little sense.

I really enjoy Hearts and Spade, but can play almost anything if taught. Rummy 500 is a good card game, too.

I like rummy most because if you only have 3 players its still very interesting. Its not one that takes 2 or 4. Spades after that

For me it's a toss up between Skip-Bo and Phase 10. We play at least one of the once a week at family game night.
