Hi guys i really want a ps3 but here in the UK they are £425 which i find too expensive. I can get a jap ps3 on e bay but wondered if there were any differences. I want to be able to watch DVD's and play any ps2 game as i have about 50 in my collection. Also i would like to use the online capability like i do with my xbox 360. Could you give me some honest advice as i have heard bad reports so far on my potential new toy !!

stick with the uk version, the inport tax can be more than the ps3.

my freind parted with £250 and still has no ps3 a month later (for a moddeded jap version) also another freind got one that was designed for 110v only (allthough it had a uk plug on it ) boom one dead ps3

be warned it's more for a uk version but safer from uk

Get a 360, cheaper, more games, graphics the same if not better. See link

Brilliant online playability and with tv and films downloads coming soon in HD so no need for HD playback.
Also Sony are lacking exclusive games for the PS3 at the mo but loads coming to 360 such as Halo 3, Mass Effect, Halo Wars and Huxley (play against PC owners as well as 360 online) plus the same PS3 favourites GTA4, resi evil5, mercenaries 2, And eventually Metal Gear Solid. Most games that are on PS3 are now in budget range on 360 and been out a year.
With over 10 million sales compared to 2 million worldwide of the PS3, game developers are opting with microsoft cause at the end of the day they want to sell more games. So what if
it has been out longer, at launch most shops had plenty into buy where you still cant get hold of a Wii. and the 360 was hard to get when it first came out.
So there you have it, Don't get caught into the Sony hype!!!
Stay with the 360

As for playing any ps2 game, all of them arent fully working, but most are,and by that i mean they work but are kind of jaggey..so far ive gone through about 15 diferent ps2 games and they run great!!! especially god of war 2!!bad thing is you cant use the ps2 dualshock(yet, they are releasing a ps3 to ps2 adapter so you can use your old controllers) or any custom controller(like guitar hero) For the dvd,im not sure if there is a region coding,i have one here in the us and its region coded for dvds,i have the japanese advent children special edidtion and i cant watch it :(.the online capabilities are kinda small right now,you can use the internet browser and check out the web,you can go to the sony online store much like the xbox marketplace, works the same.....put money in account, buy game, download game....yeah.they also have trailers and game add ons.online play is great!! ummm thats about all i can tell you right now.i think its worth the $.especially now that stranglehold and Devil May Cry 4 Are Hitting The Stores This Year

Money is well worth it. Buy UK PS3 and aviod the hassle

I have both 360 and PS3, but highly recommend PS3 for the following reasons

1) blu ray and HD video
2) PS3 HOME - COming soon
3) PS3 CPU power used to help stnaford research. You can share your PS3 power with stanford. Google Foldings@Home
