How far along are you? Sweeping the membranes will probably help you dialate more, and can start your contractions. You should go to pregnancyweekly.com, that's a great place for pregger moms! Short of a c-section, that baby will come when he/she wants to!

It depends. It might help and it might not. THat's frustrating to hear, but true.

I was 1 cm dialated and 80% effaced too when my doc stripped my membranes (w/o asking me first, grrr!) and nothing happened even a week later. It was about 2 weeks later that I had my son.

Basically, when your baby is ready to be born, you will go into labor...when your baby is not ready, not a lot will really help.

Take care w/ membrane stripping as it can sometimes lead to rupture of the amniotic sac. That puts you "on the clock" and at risk for induction and possibly a c-section.

Hope you go into labor soon though!!!

My only sugestion is now that your membranes are stripped (this means that the wall of your uterus was stripped about from the sack) is walk walk walk. And remember that you could go into labor. Also try having sex the chemicals he releases some times help to get the labor started. Also if this is your first a contraction typically feels like a pierod cramp or a stomic cramp. Also you might try going to the mall or some where you like to walk with SOMEONE. this should help you to put yourself into labor. ALSO this is strange but it works! Play with your nipples it will cause contractions and keep doing this for about an hour or two until your contractions happen on there own. My bestfriend swares by staying on your hands and knees to do every thing. It put her into labor twice. My Fiance and I did the nipple thing and it works. Hope this helps also search on the web going into labor or helping yourself to go into labor.

It is hard to tell. I had the same deal and I had contractions for a week with no changes. My sister in law had the same thing and she had her baby about 12 hours after her Dr appt. Just watch out for contractions. Drs say with in 72 hours it should help induce labor.

I had mine swept with babies 1-5 and unfortunatly still needed pitosin. Good luck. I am 35 weeks now with #6 and hoping for no pitocin this time. Does anyone know of natural ways to enduce labor?

Stiring the membranes seems to help alot when you're already starting to dilate. It did for me and I was dilated to 2 or 3 and wasn't effaced as much as you. I'd start getting your hospital bag ready. Good luck and congrats.

You are not ready yet, almost but my advice to you is to start walking and drink a lot of water this will help.
P.S. another thing that wil help you dilate fast is having s*x this helps with the contraction of the uterus.

Good Luck!
