Max Weber's "the protestant ethic and the spirit of Capitalism" is the perfect response for this. Saying basically that the idea of predestination is what spurred on the development of capitalism because early protestants believed in signs that proved they were destined for heaven (because you were either going to heaven or hell and there was nothing you could do to change this) and they looked for 'signs' that they were predestined... if they were rich, and happy in this life that must mean they would continue onto paradise. etc.
Basically the poor are the way they are because they are going to hell... and thus many Catholics were poor, so they were wrong in their beliefs.... it's their own fault....it's something worth a read.

Capitalism is highly-competitive, to such an extent that it neglects our cultural roots especially in the modern age where everything is science, math, accounting etc. It's all too calculative, such that many in my society are heading towards the research and development field, neglecting the arts (which includes cultural studies). Sad, isn't it?

The question should be the lack of importance. Capitalism is blind to both culture and tradition. It only sees money, which is why is is often rejected by countries whose systems are based on tradition and not economy.

Stems from a culture built upon (imperfectly) adherence to bible teaching-RESPECT for the dignity of one's fellow. Freedom of thought, when allowed to be sorted out over time, results in creation of better, more economical, or new ideas, etc. Respect for the property of others encourages the creating of wealth, in that the fear of loss is removed ( because honorable laws protect ideas and life).
