Depends on what exactly this false impression is concerning. If it's a personality trait, then I would strive to actually live up to that impression, i.e. loyalty, honesty, etc. Just tell them thank you and that you try to be.
If it concerns something else, then your lack of setting the record straight could be construed as lying and no one thinks well of a liar.

Maybe if I saw them on more than one occassion and a friendship was budding.........otherwise I would let them think what they want......unless its TOTALLY false and outrageous.
