It Can't. Their nuclear 'deterrent' is all but gone. Every year more of their soldiers die fighting in places where they shouldn't be, while fewer and fewer new recruits sign up. Their economy is outsourcing everything it can (to places like China and India ironically enough), and the citizens think that being in £10000 worth of debt is normal. The common man is taxed to the breaking point to cater for the 'welfare' needs of chavs and neds. All in all, a perfect example of how being PC can destroy a once great country.

The emerging economies are the BRIC ones, thats Brazil, Russia, India and China. Ask anyone in the UK thats involved in business of any sort and it won't be long before you discover that you are not surviving alone without Europe, US or the BRIC countries. It anything most major UK companies are strengthening its links overseas. It seems to suits your media to portray the reality as something different, which is fair enough.

No closed economy can survive, just look at the USSR, it collapsed internally, mainly because of economic reasons, so if the UK were to close its borders to open trade with its closest neighbours, BRIC and the US it too would stagnate economically speaking.

And, as another poster has already said, the reasons why UK was a super power over 100 yrs ago are no longer there! Unfortunately, but its the price we're paying for cheaper goods.

it's impossible to imagine a country surviving on it's own. Haiti is a prime example of a country left out in the cold, what was once the richest Caribbean country is now the poorest.. England's wealth came from it's manufacturing base in the 19th/20th century. Sorry to burst your bubble , but textiles, steel making, ship building and coal mining are dwindling resources.

BTW, the emerging economies are Brazil, Russia, India and china,

easy, because if britain comes out europe union will disintegrate because they will no longer have that mug nation to feed off. foreign companies are afraidof britain starting up again, biulding ships cars ect bringing back our engineers and designers and rebiulding in our own right instead of buying all europs goods, and we would have full employment with jobs to spare.i mean real jobs plus your children will be left a nation of their own like you were, if we stay in they will only inherrit a foreign occupied state. Their is more to life than
the economy, there is freedom, which europe will destroy.

Easily!! It is also worth noting that European countries outside the EU - such as Norway and Switzerland - continue to survive and prosper. Indeed, the highest standard of living of any European country is in one of the smallest states - Liechtenstein. Britain is far more integrated into the global economy than any of her continental neighbours, and has every incentive, therefore, to free itself from the artificial limitations imposed by the EU.!!!!!!!!!!!

You survived the blitz when no one expected you to (of course, you had help from that celebrated American, Winston Churchill). I also agree that Britain is now home to some of the world's greatest minds. Britain will be fine.

We managed okay for more than 1,000 years without any association with Europe apart from Normandy. See what happens when you let them take over? Your culture goes down the pan and you end up speaking a foreign language if you ain't careful.
