who cares. and like the religious nuts wouldnt go crazy over something like that. Im sure the way you are raised is a part of sexual orientation, but even if it was proven, so what.

Those quotes are old sayings. The reason so many people are str8 is because we need to have children that is the main reason for gender. You are programed to be st8 or gay and it is determined by certain biological factors. It may be caused by several things, this is just one theory. When a child is growing inside the mother up until a point, you could consider them all to be female. Then if it is going to be a boy the fetus is given a huge amount of male hormone, this causes it to begin to grow into a male physically. The process is repeated again later on in the pregnancy with another burst of male hormone. This time the brain development is affected making the child mentally male. If either of these bursts of testosterone are blocked or not given to the fetus the changes will not occur. So if a fetus gets the first burst and not the second he will be a homosexual, but if the first burst is missed and the second one happens she will be a lesbian. There could be many reasons it does not happen ranging from illness of the mother, trauma, and some drugs can affect this as well.

There have been numerous studies throughout the years, mostly because sexual orientation in America is a major pre-occupation, some say, due to the Puritan ethic. The studies are inconclusive and alternative lifestyles once stigmatized as a mental disorder are no longer. Society seems to need a scapegoat for everything from race to size to sexuality. Typically, most people get married and over half get a divorce. Standards are changing ever so slowly but surely nonetheless. There are studies that show % of married men and women as truly being gay and lesbian. The surge of online dating sites seems to prove this where spouses catch each other cheating and divorces happen or one spouse just accepts the others gay orientation. There can still be traditional values and morals among gay people but the status quo of society persists its denial of such. Regardless of upbringing and verbalized expectations like the examples you gave, people will choose or believe it is their purpose to live an alternative lifestyle.

I don't believe we are actually "programmed" but the questions/statements you quote are in the "norm" because MOST of society IS straight and so things are going to be slanted in that direction. These questions are considered "normal" for our relatives, teachers, clergy, sunday school teachers, etc. to ask on the assumption that everyone is heterosexual. If we go by Kinsey, then only 10% of the population is gay but our significant others in our lives don't think about that. They just ask what would be "normal" questions. Now, whether these statements "cause" someone to BE straight.... I don't think so. I think that we are born "hard wired" sexually and that is that. These statements can not "cause" someone to be "programed" to behave in a certain way. If they were that powerful, we'd all be heterosexual. Due to these statements and society pressures (family, friends, church, school, etc) some of us may TRY to alter our feelings by lying to ourselves by conforming to the "norm" (marriage, dating, children, etc) and by "playing" straight to not upset anyone. But we are what we are. No way around this. Yes, we all fear being rejected by family/friends/church by not "fitting in" though some of us are braver/stronger than others in the face of societal pressure. We may strive to be what our family believes we are "supposed to be" or confirm to how our family "expects" us to be or be true to ourselves and be honest and let anyone who opposes sort things out for themselves on their own. But I can not see how we are programmed. From day one, we are exposed to "societal norms" which we either follow or reject. With or without consequences.

You are as God made you, whatever that may be. If one does not feel worthy to be forgiven for choosing things like murder or breaking one of the commandments, even then if you ask for forgiveness you will be healed. I believe you are as God made you, brown eyes, straight hair, Italian, gay, female, even another species. None of it matters, what does is serving our Lord and Savior, doing our best by letting go and letting Jesus, that is how I believe we were programmed to be. With free will at that. Man, God is good. Good question, go in peace.

It's an interesting idea.
Personally though I don't give a shlt WHY people are gay straight or bi, I just want everyone to be treated equally. I want people to accept that not everyone is the same as them, and there's nothing wrong with that.

No. I don't believe that. We are not programmed. Sexuality is a congenital condition that is inherent in the person from the moment of birth. Asking these questions of a person, and thinking it makes them gay is doubtful as it has no impact whatsoever on the person. People are gay or straight due to biological reasons.

I think biology has a lot to do with it. Remember, homosexuals are told the same things, but it doesn't stop them from becoming gay (at puberty etc.). We all have the power to choose our actions, but if an action isn't wrong, then what exactly is the problem? I don't remember being told that I was only allowed to like girls. It just happened that way naturally.
(sorry if that question was supposed to be only for gay people, I didn't even look at the category before answering).

Perhaps there should be studies but I don't honestly believe we are programmed. We are born how we are and to me that is it, end of question. We just have to make the best of what we have and enjoy life with the one we love.

well most of that occurs around day 3,712, but i'm sure it does influence peoples view of the world and what's expected of them.
Conversely if you think you've found a universal truth, you would also have to allow for these or other events to make one gay through social programming. Good for the Goose is good for the gander.
