I have a Motorola WR850G wireless router. I've set the network as "closed" and set the Restriction mode to "Allow" only the 2 MAC addresses of my equipment. How secure am I?

bill is pretty close: wpa/psk is very good IF you use an industrial strength password (10 characters, etc.) also you must disable the "UPnP" within the admin. of the router itself, and disable your host 'file sharing'.

Hi Captain,

You have done the job well. Your wireless Internet is properly secured.

Allowing only your known MAC addresses is a good move. You can relax and not worry about intruders.

If you have a guest that you want to allow on your network you will have to set up an exception.

that's pretty secure, wanna make it bombproof though? Disable SSID Broadcasting...
that way no one will see your ESSID on the air, they'll just see a wireless network there but not know what the name is...

If you want to be fully assured that your WiFi network is secure then you have to use WPA to encrypt the traffic on your network.

Probably fine as long as you have a firewall enabled, to stop viruses and that from getting in. Most of these things come from the websites that you visit. You unknowingly invite them in.
