In the state of Ohio, if you are caught drinking and driving you have earned yourself a new set of color coded license plates, this law was put in effect several years ago. Ohio is considering assigning a different color license plate to individuals who have been convicted of a sexual crime.

Sounds good and should be very effective in deterring sexual offenses in the desire of not being color coded as sexual offender. But would not this be a violation to some human rights? Personally i support this because it will surely help, no one likes to advertise that he or she is a sexual offender. Kudos to Ohio for being so bold in coming up with creative ideas like this. Lets see if it works....

Actually, I'm trying to figure out the logic of releasing into the public a sexual predator who is likely to commit more sexual crimes.

And there is no logic. If a sexual predator is likely to commit crimes again, then they should not ever be let free. I think all these lists and license plates and other stuff are stupid because they miss the point.

The point is that dangerous people should never be let out of prison. They should probably be put to death, if we were logical and sanguine about it.

Well, that's downright stupid. What if the car is owned jointly by a husband and wife and the wife is driving? What does that say about her rights? Also, it should be cruel and unusual punishment because it could set the driver up for attack by the "goody two-shoes" who are picky and choosy about which laws they want to enforce but threaten to cut the nuts off anyone who preys on kids or they treaten to tie the tubes of welfare moms. While sexual predators need to be dealt with severely, I don't think that our state governments should be issuing tags that would make these people bigger targets than they already are. Additionally, our government has gone so crazy with punishment and labeling and holding people, there is a failure to recognize that some people who are labeled sexual predators are not really sexual predators at all -- they just dated and had sex with jail-bate which was stupid but not truly predator status. Here is an example of a case that would meet that description -- sans names.

A 19 year old boy and a 16 year old girl met at work. The 19 year old took the girl home and talked with her parents. The parents had no problem with the 19 year old dating the 16 year old girl. However, the parents came home one day and found the 19 year old in bed with the 16 year old gir. It was consentual sex but since the girl is under the age of 17 (and it would be under the age of 18 or 21 in some other states), the boy is labeled a sexual predator and must register on the sex abuse registery for 10 years or maybe even the remainder of his life. While the boy was stupid, stupid, stupid, I seriously doubt he is a sexual preadator and the girl's parents should be considered as guilty as the boy for failure to supervise the girl and for failing to advise her of the dangers and for failing to forbid the girl from seeing the older boy.

What if this was your son or daughter? What if it was you? Do you realize all the requirements that sexual predators must meet? They can't live within 100 yards of a school, can't go to parks or be around children, and have numerous other restrictions on their freedom of movement, including employment restrictions. While I would certainly sanction this treatment for someone who preys on children (say under the age of 14), I certainly don't believe that people like the boy in the above case deserve that kind of capitol punishment.

While we claim that 16 year olds can't consent to sex, they certainly seem to understand how to flaunt themselves and invite sexual attraction. They go around with their boobs hanging out, their bellies exposed, their skirts up to their butts and wear clothes so tight that little is left to the imagination. They wear so much make-up that many people would have troubling believing they were under the age of 18. We seem to believe that young men with raging hormones should have enough intelligence and stamina to resist the attraction to these young girls. However, all the statistics show, and have for many years, that boys are approximately four years behind girls in their degree of maturity. Therefore, a 19 year old boy has the maturity of a 15 year old girl and should, himself, not be considered "of age of consent" for sexual purposes.

Remember that Eve tempted Adam with the Apple (the forbidden fruit) and if men were so able to resist the temptation and the allure of women, then he would not have eaten the apple.

We need to think carefully about the punishments we're dishing out and how close we're getting to writs of assistance and bills of attainder which are all unconsitutional. When you take over someone's vehicle and the lives of all those associated with the accused/convicted sex offender, we're getting dangerously close to cruel and unusual punishment and causing the "Sins of the father" to be perpetrated upon the sons and daughters and family.

I like it.

Right now, sexual predators have to register, but to get information on predators who are registered in your area can be somewhat difficult. When I've tried to do it, I either have to pay a fee to access a website, or the free one isn't always updated and it required me to deal with daily spam showing up in my inbox. Most people I know don't go through the trouble, and therefore, their children are not as protected.

They think it's fun to prey on kids? They can deal with being branded once they get out.

It's probably going to cause more accidents, because people like that are hated and surely someone will see those plates and try to hurt or kill them because of their sickness, I think they should make it known to the public, but with a stipulation in traffic laws to ensure that innocent people are'nt caught in the crossfire when someone is chasing one of those sick perves down.

DUI is a misdemeanor. "Sexual crimes" sometimes include "crimes" that are very questionable:

I think it would be better just to do this for every felon and not end up with a huge mismash of people promoting their pet crime of the day. If we add this, grandma beaters and then people who sell bad annuities will be next.

I believe that if a person has been convicted of a crime and paid his/her debt to society, that person should not be persecuted any further. There are exceptions: like those who kill or maim. Keep them locked up. As far as protecting children is concerned, parents should take a more active roll in overseeing their children's activities and whereabouts.
Color coded ANYTHING to identify a convict is NOT ACCEPTABLE in my opinion.Trash it!

No. Too many stupid people, usually men, will take it upon themselves to deliver "justice." I think that one's neighbors should definitely know if one had been guilty of a sex crime. But it's not everyone's business. After all, if they have paid their debt to society, shouldn't they be allowed to try to resume a normal existence?

It is a wonderful idea and the ACLU will fight it til the death. It seems that in left leaning minds it is better to protect the guilty than the innocent. I am even all for posting a big sign outside their house.
