i love to give my friends (close and not-so-close ones) things they have been really wishing for. i just find that their faces when they receive the gifts are priceless. and worth my money.
is this normal? it's just that i see people around me don't give gifts much. and my bro said it's a waste of money. but i find myself happy when my friends are happy. sometimes i'm left broke buying gifts (i have a lot of friends). should i stop?

am i materialistic if i say i want gifts on my birthday too? just my birthday. i'm not asking for a car or anything. an ice-cream cone would be nice. i just want to feel special on a day that i consider special. is it wrong to think like that? i can stop.

ME! Among my friends, I'm the only one who feels the way you do :) The joy lies more in giving than receiving. I guess its cause we love our friends, we want them to be happy. Seeing that look on their face is priceless.
Your happiness lies in seeing the ones u love happy :) I think that's just awsome. If only people would stop being so self centred.
All they think about is ''me, me, me'' It's always about themselves. I can hardly agree with their principles. People like you, make the world a better place :)
Don't stop being you :) You don't really have to get them something expensive if you can't afford to. I'm sure they'll appreciate the thought. Sometimes, the smallest things make the biggest difference.

I love getting the right gift for the right person - but I have to say that sometimes I find it a bit exhausting to come up with new and better ideas. People appreicate gifts so it is a nice thing to do but you should do this to the detriment of yourself. If you don't have money don't spend on gifts or choose more selectively who you want to buy for.

I enjoy giving gifts too!
Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:
Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!
The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.
Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.
Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

If it makes you more happy to spend money on your friends than to hold on to it then that's great. I like to give people who I care about gifts too. however, I always make sure that I am taken care of before I start buying extrac things for myself or for others. You sound like a really nice person. I wish I had friends like you. Maybe we can be friends.

Ever heard that old saying (probably from the bible) - it is better to give than receive............ well it is....... you will find this in life.
Obviously if you are a generous person you will be taken advantage of my a small number of people but don't let that stop you from showing kindness to others - make the world a better place - you have to start with yourself!!

Yes, it can be very normal, just don't overspend buying for others. It's a hard habit to break. I'm a giftaholic, but often times I find myself doing for others as well and have not only gone broke but not had enough time for myself then get stressed. I am slowly breaking myself of the habits, but it IS very difficult.
