A few reasons, I guess: First of all, it is considered rude behavior to chew gum when someone like a teacher is talking to you. It shows a lack of respect. Also, they don't like you to chew gum in class because they are afraid you will stick it on the underside of your desk when you're done with it, and that is considered vandalism of school property. I got totally busted for chewing gum in class in 5th grade. I think it was sort of ridiculous because I was a very good student, and a nice kid to boot, and I personally thought my teacher had a lot of better things to do than call up my mom and tell her I had been busted for chewing gum in class, but I guess I understand that she has to treat all kids fairly and she couldn't give me special permission just because she liked me or whatever.

Distraction. Your classmate who sits next to you will want one and so everyone will want one and no one will listen to the teacher. Then some of you will leave the chewed gum on the desk and the cleaning lady will have a hard time getting rid of it.
Basically, when you chew chewing gum, it gives people the impression that you are not being very respectful because you don't seem to be paying 100% attention. That's why it is banned in the classroom.

actual i think of it relies upon on how and the place you're chewing it. as an occasion I hate it while human beings make noises or chew with their mouth open. in case you're chewing it discreetly and with courtesy what's the super deal? additionally this is not applicable to chew it at particular situations or places. as an occasion, i'd on no account chew gum whilst giving a lecture, nor would I settle for it from scholars the two.

Chewing gum isn't banned from schools because it is rude, but simply because teachers dont want to have to deal with chewing gum under tables and on the carpets.

I'm a teacher, it's school rules that students don't chew.
Personally, I don't mind. I chew when I'm studying - it helps me concentrate, so why shouldn't my students. i have an agreement that if it stays in their mouths that's fine (I can't even see it) but when they start to twirl it around I'll take action.
I think the reason behind the rule is because of the mess it leaves behind.

Shouldn't chew gum at all. Watch someone chewing and realise how ugly it is and offensive.

if its really annoying and someone is chewing really blatantly or popping it against their tongue then i would get p'd off and would feel that they were not paying attention, on the other hand you can still chew it descreetly and actually put it in the bin rather than under the table and nobody is the wiser and everyones happy!

It is my BIGGEST pet-peve to have to listen to someone chomp and snap away at their gum. I don't mind if they do it quietly so I don't have to hear it but definitely take it out of your mouth and put it in the trash if you're actually going to hold a formal conversation with me. It's rude and so unprofessional.
