Plants, archaea, bacteria, fungi and algae contain cell walls. However, animals and most protists don't: they have cell membranes. Cell walls are made from carbohydrates such as cellulose. Other carbohydrate complexes include peptidoglycan and polysaccharides.

Membranes are typically made up of a phospholipid (i.e. fatty) bi-layer.

true but cell walls are permeable as compared to the cell membranes which are selectively permeable. they provide only ,mechanical support and protection and are made up of basically lignin.

as far as i know (A level biology), only animal cells and some protists lack a cell wall.

cell walls support and protect cells. however they are not impermeable like cell membranes.
