Of course, people have to be willing to negotiate or it doesn't happen at all.

Cuban missile crisis. Kennedy told the Russians to get the missiles out of Cuba or go to war.
That was the terms of the negotiations.

I remember the DI in Bootcamp saying "You will negotiate this obstacle course in less than 2 minutes or I personally kill you"

Fortunately for the DI all the wooses died of natural causes.
