i have a 99 3.8 L firebird, with about 80k miles on it, i have had no problems with it infact it quite pampered, until now, i came out of the gas station hung a left, and within a block i went from 60lbs of oil pressure to 0lbs. big check gages light, engine died. when i got it refired i had very little pressure, but had about 25 when on the gas. The question, is it likly that the oil pump or the cam bearings would go out inside of a block to lose all my pressure. i know the pump isnt cheep to replace, but the engine deffinatly isn't. looking for some feed back, thank you.

First, look under the hood and check your oil with the dipstick. Most likely it is something simple. This happened to me one day and it turned out that the pressure line from the engine to the oil pressure guage had ruptured. I replaced it for around $10 and all was fine.

Sounds like something has been going on for a while....oil level was OK at the station?? Screen clean?? Lots of variables could be involved, hope the engine isnt history...good luck
