Honestly, I am afraid of heights too but I think being on an airplane is an extremely different feeling. When I am climbing a ladder or in a sky high hotel room, I get a sick feeling when I look over or down so I have to either come down or move away from the window. When I am in an airplane it is an entire different anxiety. There are people who love heights but cannot stand to fly. So in a nut shell, flying on an airplane has a whole different meaning to being scared of heights. When your uncomfortable about the situation on a ladder or being up high, you have the option to come down. Being in a plane is a whole different ballgame because once you take off you no longer have the get down option. Think about it.

Not very likely. Fear of heights for some strange reason doesn't have any connection with sitting inside an airliner's cabin and looking out the window. There is some logical disconnect with acrophobia and being in a plane. The same phenomenon occurs with people I've met that love flying hang gliders, yet they have a fear of heights. Weird, I know, but go figure.

Forget freaking out about the heights, it feels like as if you are on a train.
One word of warning, buy some ear plugs from the shops in the airport to stop your ears from popping. If you have never been on a airplane before then you might worry about whats happening when taking off and landing.

No likely... especially if you sit on the aisle. Don't look out the windows. I have a fear of heights to some extent. But it's not like you can fall out of the plane. In fact, you probably have more to worry about with claustrophobia than anything else.

Just make sure you get an aisle seat and bring something to read or if the flight is long enough they will have a movie you can watch. OR if its really bad sometimes your doc can prescribe you some anti-anxiety meds so that you don't freak out real bad.

Not to worry. I am terrified of heights but I can fly in an airplane just fine! Good luck.

I am the same way!! I was 30 before I got on a plane. I had a few drinks to relax me before I got on. It was scary but awsome!!! I cried a little but just tried to remember that people do this everyday. Once you get on a plane you always want to fly. I still have problems with looking out the top of a mountain but flying is not scary anymore.

I used to be afraid of heights, but flying didn't affect me the same way. I even sit in a window seat.
For your first flight, make sure you have an aisle seat, not on or near the wing, and you'll be fine.

It won't bother you at all, just don't look out the window! I have been on a plane at least 100 times and when I was younger I was scared of heights and It didn't bother me, I even looked out the window and it had no effect on me because I knew I was safe in the plane.

I have a fear of heights, too, but it doesn't affect me in a commercial airplane. I think being enclosed in a big plane and being so high 'it doesn't feel like looking over a bridge railing or something like that.
