She had a strong imagination because even though she had never visited the ocean, she wrote about it as if she had. She was really too shy in my opinion. Her shyness had its positive and negative points. Because of her unsocial demeanor, she didn't get many of her poems published until she was dead. Also she didn't want to go to college where she could have improved her writing skills because she was too shy. But at the same time, if she wasn't shy, maybe she would have never written some good poems like, I'm Nobody, Who Are You? If she had spent her time with people, she probably would have lost her interest in writing. She was a really good poet and one of the few women writers of her time.

Emily Dickinson to me represents an enigma. Her poem "i like a look of agony" hit me square in the chest. One minute her poems are deeply ironic and comedic, then she flips the switch and is so far into your personal space you forget to breathe. Although she is soft spoken in her poems, her words are stern and forward. A writer that commands both respect and attention

How come all of her poems can be sung to the tune of "The Yellow Rose of Texas?"

I was just fine until I learned that...now the tune goes through my head every time I read her poems.
