Move. My wife left Michigan while her family stayed. She's making close to 6 figures now, while the rest of them are on welfare.

She moved to New England and met me. This past year, we BOTH moved to Kansas. (Better jobs than in New England, unless you're a scientist or software programmer).

Fate smiles on those who take risks.
---------------

I am getting ready to make a move to Iowa with my fiance to help a friend get her house in order so she can put it on the market, and then we are moving hopefully to Missouri from there.
The thought of leaving my family was gut wrenching. I have two teenage daughters who do not want to leave, so they are staying with Grammy and Grampy. However, they are grown or almost grown (18 and 16), so it's not as painful as it could be, except that I AM leaving a beautiful grandson too.
Lou and I are hoping we will be able to do better by our children (he also has teenage kids he is leaving with Mom because they didn't want to go either), by leaving than we can by staying where we are. The economy sucks here too, as it does where Lou lives (NE).
I really liked the answer that fate smiles on those who take risks, because it's not easy to leave those you love, but the others are right, you CAN go back to visit, and we plan on bringing our kids out for visits too.

Umm...just the fact that you said you live in Michigan is enough for me to say hell yeah! I'm in the process of moving back to Ohio, myself. Granted, I just live over the state line, but I dislike most everything about Michigan except for the pro sports teams in Detroit and the casinos.

But to generally answer your question. I think I would accept a job afar leaving behind all friends and family...as long as my significant other was able to find a job in the same area and go with me. If not, then no go.

You need to do what's best for you. Unless your friends and family are going to support you all of your life then you need to make sure that you earn enough to take care of your needs and those of your current(if any) and future offspring.

America is a country of immigrants. Do you think this great country would exist if everyone of them stayed with their friends and family?

Make the move. You owe it to yourself and America!!!!

I moved all over the Country for over 20 years. You do what ever you have to do to feed your family and pay your bills.

If the job affords for travel back to family, take it. If it doesn't, think hard. There will be a breaking in curve in the new town, if you don't pass muster you'll be 'stranded' away from loved ones.

where your heart is so will your treasure be found.

Remember that the most valuable things in life have no money tag-they are free.

relationships, love, loyalty, honesty, all are pricless, and these eternal principles are what make life worth while, not how much you make.
