Is this true? We are going to start trying and I am overweight my doc says I am ok and will need to be super careful to not gain a lot more weight when pregnant ( I can go on a crazy pregnant binge lol) she also said that in terms of carrying a baby, the complication vary in everyone and a 110 lb person could have just as much if not more than a 300lb person. I am eatling better and excercising (down 10 lbs so far) and an goign to keep it up. But the thought of not conceiving b/c I am overweight really boggles my mind.My cycle is ok and everything on the inside is "text book" perfect (so says the doc)..please help, any other BB moms out there??? Please dispell this for me....thanks a bunch!

I waws 340lbs when I got pregnant with my son...I was prepared for problems. I had none...just a totally uneventful pregnancy. I could onylgain 10-15lbs. I ate right and exercised as much as I could. I went for my monthly prenatal appointments ans was surprised to find that I was losing a pound or so each time...fine by my Dr. In the end I lost about 1o lbs. I had no morning sickness...and delivered vaginally a 8lb 4 oz 24 " long healthy baby boy. They did have a little problem with the epidural due to the extra weight...but got it in anyways. Relax and get pregnant if you want to ...just be active like you are now. Even skinny people that arent active can have the same problems. I actually found a book about pregnancy and the larger women...go to your local bookstore and see what you can find.

Sometimes extra weight can pose a problem for trying to conceive. Fat cells store estrogen and (I think) can produce or at least release it. The extra estrogen can supress ovulation. Extra weight can aslo add to pregnancy complications, including increasing the risk for gestational diabetes, preterm delivery and c-section. However, many women who have a bit of extra padding conceive just fine and have beautiful healthy babies.

I personally have a little extra padding. I don't think well padded women are at any more risk of gaining extra weight during pregnancy, unless you are prone to eat a lot of junk food. Sometimes pregnancy is the catalyst for lasting dietary changes, as it has been for me. I am hoping to be in healthier shape for my next baby, but both of my babies so far are wonderfully healthy and there were no pregnancy complications due to my weight.

If you are not already, I'd recommend learning to chart your fertility signs. Even if your cycles appear regular, there can sometimes be hidden problems. I had very short luteal phases (which often results in very, very early micarriage if you do conceive) for many, many months w/ a "perfectly" regular 28 day cycle. If I had not been charting, I would not have known. In my case, the solution was to take B-complex vitamins daily. At the very least, charting can help you keep tabs on your gyn and overall health as well as advise you in the matter of timing intercourse during your fertile phase.

Well, I am signitficantly overweight and I was able to concieve in the first try, so thats just a lot of bull.

As long as your menstrual cycle is regular and you are reasonably active and healthy, your chances are the same as anyone else.

I think overweight people need to def be more careful during the pregnancy, but I personally don't think that conception is weight related.

I've also heard this and a lot of it has to do with circulating hormones. Heavier women secrete more estrogen, which you might know is what birth control pills are made from.
Secondly, statistically speaking heavier women have worse eating habits: either the wrong foods, or too much or too little.
I would continue to eat healthy and exercise, because you'll need those healthy habits when you get pregnant anyway, and it may help your chances at conceiving.

I have three aunts all over weight and always have been. One has 5 kids, one has 3 kids and the other has 2 kids none were adopted so yes you can get pregnant. Your weight has nothing to do with your ovulation. I would suggest losing weight because it lowers the chances of complications and (in the worst case senerio) you needed a c-section it would make the recovery fast and easier on you and the baby. However, lose weight the safe healthy way just as you are doing with eating right and exercise. Good luck with TTC

I am 5 feet tall. I am currently expecting baby #4. With each child (besides #1) I was at least 190 pounds. I didn't mean to get pregnant with #3 as I was taking birth control pills. Got pregnant on those. Got pregnant the first time trying with this baby too. Don't stress it. That will hurt your chances more. Good luck

Dont stress girlfriend. I was told the same thing. GUESS WHAT. I was 252 pounds when I got pregnant. Yes, I agree that SOME bbw might have a harder time than others but like several other people here have stated, perhaps there are other reasons why. I also know many many big ladies, some smaller than me and some much bigger than me that have child after child. My advice to you is just relax, pray and have fun trying. It will happen when its suppossed to. Good luck and best wishes to ya!!

the complications that you read about are less about overweight women as they are about inactive women. A skinny couch potato is going to have the same pregnancy problems as a heavy one. Likewise, a fit heavy woman will ease into motherhood the way a thin one does. Please don't worry, you'll do great!!! There are so many Thick Mommies out there, and they had to get those babies somehow !!!! :)
Best of luck to you!!!

generally yes, overweight people do have a harder time.
i myself am over weight, but i just found out that i am expecting my first baby, and concieved the 2 month trying.
your doctor is right when she states that some one 110lbs. can have just as much complications as someone over weight. weight has a part, but not everything to do with wether or not you can concieve and carry a baby to term.
just stay positive and youll be ok.
