John Riggins -- 80s, with the Redskins

I suggest you hit the history books and find out about the wonderful tales of yesteryear in the NFL. While it's true that the vast majority of RB/FB are black, there have been many GREAT white players at these positions, as the previous posts have alluded to.
A few more that I did not see mentioned are John Cappaletti, Rob Lytel, Hugh McElheney(?), Jim Kick, Tom Mattie, Norm Bulasch(?).
I'm really glad that someone remembered Ed Podilack; he was a great slashing/cutting type back for the great K.C. teams of the early 70's-- an excellent receiver too.
Good luck on your exploration of the social and cultural growth of both the world of professional sports and society overall!!!! Good question!

There have been plenty of talented white halfbacks in the NFL (Csonka, Riggins, Grange to name a few) . As an Black man, I detest the stereotype that only blacks can play and excel at the skill positions. But much like black quarterbacks were told for years that someone of their color could not be an NFL signal-caller, white athletes are told that they can't be a cornerback, running back or wide receiver because of their color. You'd think we'd be past that in 2007, but apparently we're not.
