I have a violin that's good up to the start of intermediate level. I spent about $600 on it and now I need to move onto a better instrument. Where can I sell it? How can I sell it? Do I have to get someone professional to tell me @ how much I should try and sell it at?

Another possibility is to donate the violin to a music program at a school. If you're near a city (e.g., Toronto) with an orchestra and/or good music shops or string instrument repair shops, you might want to get an appraisal of value. They also can point you toward charitable groups providing instruments to needy students. The violin instructors in the music department at your local college or university could also help you.
I don't know Canadian tax laws, but you might be able to get a charitable deduction for the value of the instrument by going this route.

You should be able to get about $300 for your fiddle. You could use EBay or Overstock.com, or even Amazon, I think, but you could also do some advertising locally without dealing with breakage and dealing with the flakes on EBay. A lot of grocery stores and other businesses allow sellers to use a bulletin board (use an ad that enables the buyers to tear off a tab with your phone number.) Another means would be to take out a Little Nickel ad or a classified ad in your local paper. There are lotsof places to get the word out. You might also contact the local band leader or grade school and let them know that you have a violin for sale. One final word: you've kind of missed the "season" for unloading used musical instruments. Parents are looking for instruments in August or September. You might need to sit on it for several months.

You can sell it to a music store because students wouldn't like Ebay because they don't know the quality of your violin so just sell it to a music store :)

eBay or go to your local high school (if they have a string program), or college, or closest group that has an orchestra and tell the director that you have the instrument. Look up the brand and model to see what they're going for on ebay to get an idea of what it's worth.

Go to ebay and sell it. It's the best way to do so. That or you could put an add in your local paper.

You can do it on ebay or sell it to a music store or put up flyers. The flyers can go in a music store. Where I take guitar lessons, they have those flyers there and that is a music store.
