It will be fine unless you are online when a fax comes in. There will be icons on the printer fax Take a phone line and attach it from the wall to the line port on the fax. Then from the phone to the phone icon on the fax machine. Or if they are situated in different rooms just plug them into the wall. It won't be able to receive a fax when you are online with your computer or using your phone. Also turn off your phone answering system.

This is going to depend on what kind of computer it is and what Operating System it is using and whether or not you are going to use a third party FAX program or use Fax capability built into the OS.
The key thing with FAX machines is that the phone call must be answered automatically (usually) though the computer (usually).
You might be able to run a phone wire out of the modem card second jack or buy a cheap phone line splitter and run the phone to the HP unit directly. Then you could get faxes when the computer is off.
You only have the one phone number; the confusion is about which machine answers it when it rings.
Read the instructions again and then ask another question, somebody will probably answer.

Well to answer your second question first, maybe! If you are using a dial up arrangement, only one device can have access at a time. SO either voice, internet, or fax (essentially the same as voice). Now the first question the short answer is "yes" you need to get a phone line splitter and run one line from the splitter to your computer and one to the fax.... Or if your modem has a port for the phone which is not being used, plug the fax into it.
