My daughter has had an ectopic pregnancy diagnosed and is reluctant to lose a fallopian tube, so has asked for medical management by the use of a drug. My sister had this 18months ago and has not been right since. Has anyone any stories good or bad to tell. My daughter is keen to retain her fertility as she is only 25. This was an unplanned pregnancy-her IUD obviously failed, but she does intend to have more children in the future.

I had an ectopic pregnancy that was originally misdiagnosed as a miscarriage. After the D&C showed no products of conception I was immediately sent to the ER to receive a dose of methotrexate to stop my baby from growing. It made me sick for about 2 days but then I was back to normal with no adverse effects. Down side, it didn't work. My baby kept growing and hormone levels were slowly rising. I was getting lab levels drawn every two days to monitor, but while I was in the gym working out I had a horrible pain on my left lower abdomen area and went to the bathroom expecting blood. I couldn't walk, catch a decent breath, or sit. That's when I drove myself and 2 kids to the doctors office to find out that my fallopian tube ruptured and I was bleeding internally. I was rushed to the hospital and had a 7" incision made up and down my abdomen (couldn't do the surgery laparoscopically because when my doc inserted the tools to do this blood came rushing out and they thought I had ruptured an artery). In the end I not only lost my baby, but my left fallopian tube and my ovary. Now fertility is in question due to the scarring. I don't mean to scare you, just thought I'd share my story. I'm sure in the end your daughter will make the choice that best suits her. Just keep following up with her OB/GYN.

NO NO NO NO!!!!

Don't you know how dangerous this is?? An ectopic pregnancy requires surgical removal of the embryo. If not, the fallopian tube can rupture, leading to bleeding and death.

Your daughter needs emergency surgery to remove the embryo. Take her to an ER NOW. This is no joke. I've had two...I almost died after the second one ruptured (I didn't know I was pregnant until it was almost too late).

If the ectopic ruptures, your daughter may not only lose her fallopian tube...she may lose her life.

Get her to the ER RIGHT NOW. Do NOT wait another minute!!

I have had two ectopic pregnancies. The first one, I was very young and didn't know a whole lot. They just sent me home and said I had to abort the baby. Needless to say, I did go home as instructed, only to be back a few hours later to go into emergency surgery... lost that tube. The second time around it was caught early and they were able to make repairs to the tube. They told me I would still have a 70% chance of conceiving. Well low and behold, since then I have had my daughter. With no complications from the surgery at all.

My friend had an ectopic pregnancy and had to have a fallopian tube removed, she was pregnant again 3 months later with a normal pregnancy. My mum had an overy removed because of a cyst before she had me and my brother and didn`t have a problem conceiving. It amazes me how nature adapts. She won`t necessarily have a problem with conception if she only has one of something.
