Is it dangerous? Yes, considering the "fumes"...... Unlike TV and Movies, it is not the gasoline itself, but the fumes from it that burn. The fear, and the reason that it is illeagle in all 50 states and most countries in the world not to smoke or talk on a cellphone while "pumping gas" is that it is possible for the fumes to ignite. Once, you have a fire at a gas station, well, the explosion from the fumes trapped in the storage tank will be very impressive and cause damage for a large area around.

Even static electricity can cause a fire at a gas station. I'm not sure the whole station will explode, but there will be an explosion.

Despite all of the safety equipment and precautions an open flame can cause an explosion if the conditions are right.
You would need a concentration of fuel vapors and an ignition source. Unless you are a suicide bomber, I would suggest compliance with the rules.

Ya it could. Any spark or flame, even one caused by static electricity from pulling on a sweater can do it. It's not neccesarily going to blow up the gas tanks, put it's not worth the risk.

Not 100% of the time. It would depend on density of fumes in your vicinity. Not something I would try. ;-)=
