Here are several suggestions, as I have been in your situation, being a single parent many times...
1. Get a second job
2. Find a roommate if you have enough room.
3. Get rid of unnecessary extras, such as eating out...eat at home (cheaper), switch to basic cable, or use an antenna, get cheaper phone service and don't use long distance (email is easily accessible in internet cafes and public libraries, colleges, etc)
4. If you are in a city and don't have a vehicle (you take the subway, etc) walk anywhere you possibly can..you save on toll that way. If you own your car, give yourself a weekly gas budget and stick by it.
5. Find cheaper entertainment....if you go to clubs (drink at home before you go and get a designated driver - rotate weeks, so that it is fair to everyone). If you go to movies, eat at home first, so that you don't buy popcorn and drinks..they are crazy expensive.
6. And finally, explain this all to your landlord, and tell him/her about your plan of action to fix it, stick to it, and hopefully your landlord will work with you.
Good luck!

Try finding a second job, pawn something of value or take out a signature or payday loan (they have gotten me out of tight spots). Or you can just go to your landlord and tell them what's going on and hope they understand. Good luck.
