Based on what my son's pediatrician has said, no juice is NOT ok and solid foods are NOT okay at 4 months. According to him and all the other doctor's at his practice, babies do not have a fully functioning digestive tract until about 6 months, and introducing solid foods can cause the child to develop allergies to foods because they cannot process the food the first time, and their bodies learn to "fight off" these foods after wards. Formula or breast milk are all children should get until 6 months. Because this is what my son's doctor has said, I would check with your own child's pediatrician. If they have different views, then they would be able to answer your juice question. Plus, they should be informed when your child is beginning to eat solids, and they should know what kinds of foods they are eating.

I do not think juice is okay for a 4 month old. Their bodies can't break the enzymes and stuff right now. Same goes for solids. Are you talking about baby food? Stage 1 food MAY be alright but you should talk to your doctor. Just get some of the baby rice that you can put in his bottles to thicken it up and he should be good with that. Also, if you're worried about him getting enough fluids just give him some water! Water is perfect for them!!!! My son will be 1 on April 3rd and I started giving him baby food and baby rice at 4-5 months old. I just started giving him juice mixed with water. Good Luck in what you choose! **www.happysahm.com**

yea juice is perfectly fine. my daughter has had juice since 3 months. i usually give sugar water, watered down prune juice, and watered down white grape juice. chances are he is getting enough fluids but some something besides formula wont hurt. and i have a question for you, are you giving him only solids, or solids and formula?if you could email me i would appreciate it. and to the first lady, get off it. even pediatricians say 4-6 months. ive been giving my daughter cereal sice she was 3 months. it all depends on the baby

it is recommendend that babies not have juice (or solid food for that matter) until at least 6 months of age. starting too early can result in allergies and could hurt their tummy since some juices are hard to digest such as apple. white grape juice has been studied and confirmed to be the most tolerated 1st juice. the baby is getting plenty of fluids from their milk-don't introduce too early

You need to keep juice down to about 4 oz a day. More than that, and you're just giving your kid sweet stuff.
At four months, he shouldn't be on enough solids to justify cutting out breastmilk/formula. Have you looked at those jars of baby food? They have, like, 30 calories. They're more for learning purposes than they are for nutrition. Keep him on pretty much his regular amount of breastmilk/formula until he's eating actual solids (finger-type-food) for most of is nutrition, and hold off on juice for a while.
If you're in a climate that is extra hot and dry, give him water to supplement fluids.

You should wait until he is at least 6 months old and then only give him juice that has been diluted heavily with water. Here's why:
Because of the sugars in juice, it can cause diarrhea.
Too much juice can cause a child to be overweight or obese.
Juice contains sugars and acids that can cause tooth decay.
Giving your baby too much juice can hinder growth and development, and can cause malnutrition and anemia due to lack of nutrients like proteins and complex carbohydrates.
If you are still breastfeeding, juice can cause your baby to nurse less
Also, four months is a bit early to be starting with the solids. His nutrition should still be coming from milk at this point.

Babies never need juice. Water is so much more important. Unless the juice is fresh (as in you have a juicer and made it yourself) its severely lacking alot of the nutrition from the fruit.
4 months is also a little young for solids... was your baby grabbing for your food? Can he feed himself? Can he sit up unassisted?
Breastmilk and formula contain plenty of water. Juice should wait and be a treat for special occations.

A very small amount is okay, but just make sure to water it down by atleast half water half juice. But really you shouldn't give it, there is a lot of sugar and hardly any nutritional value. You can give water if you think he's thirsty. Water is a better choice than juice because introducing it and getting him used to just plain old water will make him more of a water drinker and less of a sweet drinker later in life.
Also remember that the cereal that you're giving him has a lot of liquid in it too (formula, breastmilk, or water). I know when I make my baby's cereal it is about 3 tablespoons of cereal and 4 ounces of breastmilk.

Well, my doctor told me to feed my daughter cereal at 4 months. But only once a day. I wasn't told to give her juice until she was 6 months old.
